Abstract

Nowadays, water pollution due to antibiotics is a serious matter. This present research investigated to analyze the characteristics of biochar from pine leaves (Pinus kesiya) to remove the antibiotic Cefixime from aqueous solutions. The influence of some factors: pH (2-10); contact time (10-240 mins); initial concentration of Cefixime were carried out. The characterization of materials was determined by using FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer), BET (Brunauer - Emmett - Teller), and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). Biosorption data was suitable for Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. Through the linear equation of the Langmuir isotherm model, the maximum adsorption capacities of Cefixime (qmax) were 21,51 mg/g. The biosorption process obeyed the Pseudo second-order kinetic models. This research proves that biochar is a potential biosorbent for antibiotic Cefixime removal from an aqueous solution with high efficiency, low cost, and environmental friendliness.
